Olivier de Sagazan, urodzony w Brazzaville w Kongo, jest francuskim malarzem, rzeźbiarzem i artystą performance. Z wykształcenia biolog, od ponad trzydziestu lat bada w swojej twórczości relacje między ciałem, tożsamością i procesem przemiany. W jego sztuce szczególne miejsce zajmuje ludzkie ciało oraz pytanie o to, co tak naprawdę definiuje jednostkę.

W performansie „Hybridation” artysta występuje w duecie z Alyzée Soudet-Polaris. Na scenie dwoje performerów wykorzystuje glinę jako podstawowy materiał performansu. Nakładając kolejne warstwy na twarz i ciało, deformują własne rysy, stopniowo tracąc indywidualną tożsamość i przekształcając się w żywe rzeźby. Proces ten staje się wizualną metaforą przemiany – odsłaniania tego, co kryje się pod społecznymi maskami, które nosimy na co dzień.

On April 21st at 7:00 PM at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, Warsaw audiences will have the opportunity to see "Hybridation" live for the first time – one of the most famous performances by world-renowned artist and performer Olivier de Sagazan.

Sagazan's works have fascinated audiences worldwide for years, and critics have called them some of the most original and extraordinary stage experiences in contemporary theatre.

Born in Brazzaville, Congo, Olivier de Sagazan is a French painter, sculptor, and performance artist. A biologist by training, his work has explored the relationship between the body, identity, and the process of transformation for over thirty years. The human body and the question of what truly defines an individual occupy a special place in his art.

In the performance "Hybridation," the artist performs in a duo with Alyzée Soudet-Polaris. On stage, the two performers use clay as the primary material for their performance. By applying successive layers to their faces and bodies, they deform their own features, gradually losing their individual identities and transforming into living sculptures. This process becomes a visual metaphor for transformation—revealing what lies beneath the social masks we wear every day.

The artists sculpt each other's faces and bodies, immersing themselves in a material that simultaneously creates and destroys their image. This dynamic relationship is embodied by elements of dialogue, rivalry, fusion, and closeness. Each character oscillates between the roles of creator and material, puppeteer and marionette, revealing how identity is formed in relationship with another person.

When the layers of clay begin to rob the performers of their vision, the artists are forced to symbolically look deep into their own selves. The very process of painting and sculpting becomes a ritual suspended between dance and trance, with improvisation at its core. Each "Hybridation" performance is unique and unrepeatable.

Sagazan's work is often interpreted as a contemporary realization of Antonin Artaud's Theatre of Cruelty – an intense stage experience that transcends the boundaries of traditional theater and explores the possibilities of the human body and expression.

The Warsaw performance of "Hybridation" will be a unique opportunity to meet the artist, whose works have for years evoked emotions and admiration among audiences worldwide.
